Brief programme description
This master’s degree program in interlinguistic is intended for international students interested in culture, international communication, languages and linguistics and computer applications in the humanities. It provides the knowledge and skills necessary to understand the linguistic situation in the world and to work in an international setting. The curriculum of the specialization centers around intercultural communication using Esperanto while subjects related to information management are taught in English.
The specialization in Interlinguistics within the Linguistics and Information Management Master’s Degree Program is intended for candidates who have completed undergraduate studies obtaining a bachelor’s degree (BA, licencjat), and know Esperanto and English at a minimum level of B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).
Example of courses
- Continuation of Esperanto and English at a high level (C1-C2) concentrating on the creative use of both languages
- Translation between English and Esperanto taking into consideration also the mother tongues of the participants
- Linguistics (phonetics, morphology, syntax, semantics) of Esperanto and through them the principal concepts of linguistics,
- Linguistic typology concentrating on the cross-linguistic similarities and differences using Esperanto as a common denominator to present and explain them
- Language policy analysing the linguistic situation in multilingual countries and international contexts
- Intercultural communication introducing students to problems in communication, their causes and how to overcome them
- Constructed languages (from philosophical through naturalistic to art languages)
- The culture, literature and movement of Esperanto and their place among global trends
- Digital humanities: information tools and methods for linguists as web sites, corpora, dictionaries, translation tools, information management.
- At the beginning of the second year of studies, students also choose subjects of particular interest to them (60 hours altogether) from a range of elective courses.

The graduates of the program have a sound basic knowledge of the areas of linguistics, international and intercultural communication, language policy, and information management as well as the ability to use the tools utilized in the last of the fields mentioned above. They also have an extensive knowledge of the area of planned languages as well as that of the linguistics, culture, and literature of Esperanto and of the history of the Esperanto movement. They are able to critically analyze and evaluate the language situation in the world as well as utilize their knowledge in intercultural communication. They are able to compare languages and cultures, appreciate cultural heritages as well as other types of diversity and are able to work in an international context. They are also able to further their education on their own.
The qualifications acquired during these studies will allow graduates to find employment in offices of international companies, travel agencies, media companies, public administration units oriented towards international cooperation, international organizations as well as sectors requiring regular international cooperation and communication along with openness to diversity and difference. Graduates may also undertake employment in cultural organizations as well as organize courses and cultural events.
