Programme description
The degree programme in East Slavic Philology / Russian Philology specialisation belongs to the area of education in the humanities.
The study programme enables the students to acquire in-depth theoretical knowledge and practical skills in linguistics, literary studies, cultural realities, high skills and competences in the field of practical knowledge of the leading language of the study specialisation - Russian (level C1 of the CEFR) and - depending on the chosen study path - to develop skills in an additional East Slavic foreign language (Belarusian or Ukrainian) to the level A2 of the CEFR), as well as to acquire in-depth philological knowledge.
Second-cycle studies develop research skills, the ability to think critically and to evaluate phenomena in depth, to organise independent work within a specific theoretical or practical task and to present the results.
The study programme has been designed in such a way as to allow for maximum individualisation of education, including through the choice of study paths, study specialisations and elective subjects.

- Teaching specialisation.
The student also chooses a Master's seminar (in linguistics, literary studies, literary and cultural comparative studies) that best suits his/her predispositions, interests, further educational and/or professional plans.
Equipping students with the knowledge and skills to interpret the linguistic, literary and cultural phenomena and contexts of the East Slavic area while confronting them with their native linguistic competence and knowledge of cultural realities will enable them to use them in professional work of various nature, in which specialised linguistic-communicative and intercultural qualifications are necessary.
Requirements under the Act on the Protection of Minors
Students of second-cycle studies are obliged to complete a professional practice in accordance with the specialisation pursued by the end of the fourth semester of studies, while the time of completion of the practice must not interfere with teaching classes.
It is a condition of compulsory student professional practice that the student meets the requirements set out in the Act of 13 May 2016 on Counteracting the Threat of Sexual Offences and the Protection of Minors, in particular to undergo verification in the Register of Sexual Offenders and to submit information from the National Criminal Register with regard to specific offences, and in the case of students who are foreigners or who have resided in the last 20 years in countries other than the Republic of Poland, also to submit additional declarations, as well as information from criminal records of other countries together with sworn translations.
Failure to comply with the requirements set out in the above-mentioned Act will make it impossible to complete the compulsory student work placements and consequently to graduate.

Students design part of the programme on their own, having at their disposal optional subjects from the list of elective courses.

Graduate competencies
The study programme enables you to acquire and improve fundamental competences and skills desired on the labour market, such as:
- the ability to prepare oral and written statements in Russian (level C1 of the CEFR) and an additional selected foreign East Slavic language (Belarusian or Ukrainian),
- the ability to interpret linguistic, literary and cultural phenomena and contexts in the East Slavic area while confronting them with their native linguistic competence and knowledge of cultural realities,
- the ability to search for and evaluate information, analyse and interpret linguistic, literary and cultural texts,
- effective organisation of their own work, the ability to make independent choices,
- the ability to work both individually and in teams, responsibility in carrying out assigned tasks,
- awareness of the need for continuous updating of one's knowledge and skills in the context of one's profession and the need to integrate information from various disciplines.
Career prospects
The acquired in-depth knowledge of linguistics, literary studies and literary and cultural comparative studies, a wide range of improved skills, e.g. in foreign languages, the ability to search for and evaluate information, analyse and interpret linguistic, literary and cultural texts, prepare oral and written statements, as well as the competence to carry out assigned tasks and projects, work in a team and independently, meet the needs of the labour market for candidates and enable them to take up jobs as:
- Russian-Polish translator,
- Russian lecturer,
- Russian teacher (*if teaching specialisation was chosen),
- manager and organiser of cultural life,
- recruiter of employees from and for the Eastern Slavic language area,
- specialist in state and local administration units oriented to international cooperation, production, trade and service companies cooperating with foreign partners, marketing, logistics and customer service departments in companies with an international and culturally diverse character.
