Programme description
English Philology part-time studies render the possibility of studying for those who, for various reasons, cannot study full-time. The studies are carried out in a system of meetings that take place on Saturdays and Sundays, every two weeks. The meetings (including lectures, classes and seminars) are conducted by qualified lecturers with extensive professional experience.
Thanks to our general academic studies, you will gain not only comprehensive knowledge of linguistics, literary studies and culture of the English language area, but also practical skills in using English.
Importantly, we offer the opportunity to choose the pronunciation model that you will acquire and master during practical English learning (British or American pronunciation).
We will also ask you to choose the specialization path that you will pursue during your studies. Our offer in this respect includes "Theory and practice of translation" (the so-called "translation path") and "English in business transactions" (the so-called "business path"). By choosing the translation path, you will gain access to knowledge and skills covering important theoretical and practical aspects of a translator's work, such as types of translations, tools supporting the translation process (CAT, dictionaries), specific contacts with clients / translation agencies, or the principles of translating legal, business, journalistic texts, etc. Due to the fact that we train our students in translating from English into Polish and vice versa, we also expect people choosing this path to have extensive knowledge of the Polish language. By choosing the business path, you will discover entrepreneurial perspectives for the practical use of the knowledge and skills acquired during your studies, as well as the steps and tools necessary for this purpose (e.g. key aspects of running your own business). As part of this path, you will also complete a number of courses in specialist vocabulary, as well as a course in modern technologies in the field of English teaching. (The full list of courses within the respective specialization paths can be found below).
Additionally, you will also choose a modern foreign language (lecture course) that you will study during the 2nd and 3rd year of your studies.
